It's ok for a quick stop

Nothing here to write home about. It's a small park with limited picnic tables however there is a washroom facility if you need a break.

Philly and cheese with fries, roadside under the Jacaranda trees. Great food.... on the highway.... in the country away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist centers... this try is where the locals eat.!

I had been hoping for more of an arboretum, but felt like a regular 'run of the mill' park. Nice, but nothing to go out of your way to visit.

This state park has a selection of hiking trails through cool, damp forest as well as one single permit-required camp site. The single camp site is inside a picnic shelter. Signs say that tent camping and vehicle camping are prohibited although this is basically a rest area where no one checks anything. I had paid for the permit but no... More

A small park with a nice trail. It is more of a hike than a walk. As others mentioned, it is not really maintained. There is an interesting lava collapse that you can see not too far from the parking lot. The ohi'a trees are struggling from the drought Hawai'i has been experiencing so the tops are dying. Sad. It... More

It's a two-mile loop trail from 1800-2200 feet in the forest. Trail surface is irregular 1-inch to 4-inch volcanic cobble. There are no breathtaking views or scenic vistas. But you can get at least a mile away from everybody else on the big island, if peace and quiet are your goals.

This park and hike are well worth the stop. Beautiful botanical park and marked nature walk. Restrooms, picnic tables and barbecues.

A beautiful hike and nice picnic tables with grill, also bathrooms after the windy road. Looked like pet friendly too!

The loop hike is 2 miles around the native forest. It is beautiful and easy, but beware of the mosquitoes, bring repellant and you will not be disappointed.

Not a trail for the weak of heart. Rough and rocky so be sure to bring good hiking boots with hard soles. While not the most beautiful area it is a fairly arduous hike on an easy to follow trail. We live nearby and do this trail twice for our morning exercise when we are looking for a change of... More
