The Maku'u farmers market is not to be confused with the "Pahoa farmers market". The Maku'u farmers market is located midway between Pahoa and Keaau, close to Ainaloa. The Pahoa farmers market is just south of Pahoa and has been relocated to the Nanewale longhouse in the Nanewale estates just off Kapoho road. If you search for "Pahoa farmers market"... More

We went to Makku u Farmers Market not for folcloric reasons but for shopping food . The market had only a very poor offer of decent food. The only acceptable section was in general vegtables.....however I could not tell that there was a big difference to one of the nearby supermarkets of Pahoa. Bread.....NO. Cheese no! Well one small stand... More

This is a big farmer's market. Lots of vendors. Lots of fruits and vegetables, some organic, some exotic. Also, lots of craft vendors selling all kinds of things - jewelry, t-shirts, sarongs, candles, pottery, herbal medicines, etc. And there are quite a few hot food vendors. And live music.

We stopped at this Sunday only market and had a great time. The wide selection of fresh produce and flowers was outstanding. There were more than a dozen food vendors present. We tried a couple and they were very good. There were also vendors with both new and used merchandise at good prices. We will stop here again.

What a fun place to eat, buy a souvenir, people watch and buy fruit. Loved green papaya salad! Must try fresh coconut juice and passion fruit juice.

This market is well-organized - particularly the parking - and has just about something for everyone: fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, junk. Great for people-watching too. A great excuse to visit another gorgeous corner of the island.

Remember, it Hawaii, so stroll, talk to the vendors and take your time. We asked questions about the items offered and everyone was not only willing to talk to us, they were glad to explain what they were selling and how they make it.Looking for essential oils?
