We took the lava boat tour with Kalapana, an awesome way to get up close to the lava. A small boat & only 6 passengers means you get a great view of the lava ocean entry. Comfortable seats, expert boat handling and informative local guides! Highly recommend them - much mahalo guys!

We had a lava hike scheduled with Kalpana Cultural Tours, but unfortunately the volcano decided not to cooperate and wasn't providing any surface flows when our tour was scheduled. We got an email from Kalpana the day before to explain the situation, tell us what the experience would be like, and give us some options including the option to cancel... More

Da Kine. Grew up here and was in the recreational/charter industry for 10 years. Smoothest charter operation I have seen. Skillful boat handlers, very knowledgeable and friendly. There is much Aloha. The experience is amazing.

We had a fantastic Sunrise Lava Boat Tour with our guide, Andrew! My wife and I were actually told about this company by word-of mouth - we had rented mountain bikes a few days earlier from a company in Kalapana, and on returning from the Natioanl Park we mentioned seeing the boat tours and how amazing they looked. Our bike... More

My husband and I took the afternoon/evening hiking tour to see the surface flows and lava entering the ocean. It was an amazing experience! The guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. The cooled, fresh lava was incredibly interesting to look at, and the surface flows put on a tremendous show. The hiking distance to the surface flows varies daily and... More

I decided on this company b/c a neighbor booked through them and had all good things to say. I booked online and it was fast and easy. We rented 4 bikes and a wagon thing for 2 younger kids. Our total was about 110.00. We got there around 5 and they set us up with bikes, helmets for kids, first... More

Andrew and Ikaka (I tried) were two of the best guides I've ever had! Andrew made sure that everyone was ok, the whole time, and was very knowledgeable about the local flora and culture. Both of the guys were very professional, made us feel safe, but most importantly...hilarious! The lava flowing into the ocean was AMAZING and they brought us... More

KuKui our afternoon bike/hike tour guide of the lava flows made the trip so fun and informative. Biking to the lava field as we passed many new self-contained min-homes on recent flows. The hike across the lava fields to the flows is rigorous but doable. KuKui set a reasonable pace for us and constantly checked in on how we were... More

We originally booked a boat tour to see the lava but the coast guard had put a 300 meter restriction on all boats, we were able to easily change our tour to a hiking tour instead. My wife was pretty hesitant about walking on lava that was crunching and hollow sounding but we both made it to a small breakout... More

My boyfriend and me did both the morning hiking tour and the afternoon boat tour with Kalapana Cultural Tours, both of them blow our minds! The morning hiking starts at 5am and we happened to be the only two of that tour. Our guide, Uncle Herbie, is extremely experienced and knows what he's doing. He drove us to the closest... More
