The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

Magnificent botanic garden specializing in Sunset Garden Zone H2 plantings. The majority of plants have been imported from other tropical areas around the world, although a good number of the plants are Hawaii natives. More than 2000 species on 17 acres. An unexpected treat was the section of the garden bordering the sea. Wonderful views. All of the paths are... More

We took an impromptu decision to take this tour. It is along the route of the scenic drive of papikoa- a must do on way from Hilo to Akaka falls. It has a beautiful waterfall, shoreline view and pretty flowers and trees. Well worth the admission fee.

If you love tropical plants, if you love gardening, if you appreciate landscaping, if you are into nature, GO. Stunning and beautiful. Fantastic location. If you are not sure which garden to visit on the Big Island, THIS is the one. Plan your day accordingly if you are on opposite side of island, but then you get to see so... More

Just go. If you're in Hilo, its a short drive, and it's worth it. There are beautiful surprises around every turn. If you go when the whales are around, you can see them breaching from the bay view area. Don't worry about other comments (some of the plants are not native, some plants are not identified, its hot, its humid,... More

Beautiful botanical garden with a paved path winding through lush vegetation, around an orchid garden, past a waterfall, to an astounding view of the ocean. Truly a labor of love.

It's a nice walk in the forest... I thought I would be able to take more pictures but I realized that this is a tropical forest and the light is not that great for pictures. I never seemed to have the right light or angle. Maybe its because I was too late in the afternoon. So, unless you are fascinated... More

definitely worth the trip. A beautiful walk down to the ocean, with gorgeous views down there. could have spent hours wandering around. It's not large, but well worth the visit.

The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens are located about 7 miles north of Hilo on the Old Mamalahoa Hwy which runs off Hwy 19. It is worthwhile to visit these gardens as they reflect one mans hard work and dedication to building these botanical gardens out of an area originally littered with trash. You need about 2-3 hours to walk these... More

I'm not a garden person but I was blown away by this attraction. The entry fee is modest and worth every cent. Customers must realise that it involves a steep walk down a well made path but golf buggies are available for those who need one. The garden is extremely well laid out and kept me occupied for a couple... More
