There are literally beaches all throughout the island.... many of them overcrowded (possibly overrated), and a few of them pretty empty (and vastly underrated). Situated on the north shore, Hanalei Bay is somewhat of a compromise. Yes, you will find many visitors there, but the beach is also about 10x the size of Poipu Beach and offers much better scenery!... More

The weather wasn't perfect for sitting on the beach but we enjoyed the walk anyways. I can imagine how beautiful it would be on a sunny warm day.

Very pretty beach. Being from snow country we just loved walking on the sands. The views are beautiful. Wish we had been prepared to swim.

Very nice beach. Lots of surfing paddle boarding, and kayaking. Beautiful view from the pier. Tuff to beat a beach this nice!

This is a great beach off the main road a few blocks, so it's not as busy as other beaches. It is a large bay, with a long stretch of sand, as well as a grassy park area. Great place to suntan, watch surfers, have a picnic, or swim if the surf isn't too rough. You can rent kayaks and... More

Beautiful beach, soft sand, walkable and comfortable. Easy to find parking and we strolled for the day. There were lots of people in the water, lots of families. Take your chair and towels. Just a side note, every beach restroom we used ( it was every one on the island) ARE FILTHY!!!! The Pier was a great view, great body... More

Its a nice big beach with several parking areas but they get quite crowded in the afternoon. The beach itself is not that crowded and it has a nice Pier at the east end. Its usually ok for swimming unless the surf is high.

No wonder this spot is rate #1. But I would go one further and say don't come to Kauai without stopping here. Stunning beach and calm waters thanks to the bay.

There in January during high swells and dangerous surf conditions, I heeded all the warnings and didn't swim. But the water was warm and clear. It was a lovely afternoon just sitting and walking on the beach.
