I am always surprised that people who are not fit or who do not have proper gear, either rain or shoes, are either disappointed or annoyed. This is a very easy 800 foot total elevation gain hike, which is easy to moderate. Yes it is very muddy in places. In addition, if you walk past the picnic benches, which is... More

Great hike and I didn't even do the crazy ledge part. Totally worth it especially when it's not the rainy season...then it gets kind of dangerous.

First 1/2 mile was pretty muddy but then it was drier. If it was dry, this hike would be pretty easy. It wasn't hard today either and I think probably at its most difficult would be easy-moderate. The views were nice but it wasn't very clear today. Still it was reminiscent of scenes from Jurassic Park. The trail continues 3/4... More

The trail is 4 miles long. Beautiful views! You can jog, walk or ride a bike. Bike rentals around the area.

We woke up early this morning to do the hike before the sun got too strong. We are both really inexperienced hikers who are out of shape and overweight, and we had no problem at all doing this trail! The fallen tree mentioned in several other reviews has since been cleared. We ran into some locals along the way who... More

We took a dog out on a field trip through Kauai Humane Society's program. This was our first trip to this trail. It had been raining quite a bit all week. The trail from the get go was extremely muddy. So muddy that I almost lost my hiking shoes! It was super hot, muddy and full of mosquitos. Probably about... More

After a terrifically scenic drive to the Arboretum, put on your hiking shoes and get ready for astounding views. And lots of red, goopy, sticky mud, because, guess what, it's always raining at some point here. Not that the rain matters - but some may be a little turned off by the slog through the sog. And if you're wearing... More

Hiked this trail after having hiked the Sleeping Giant 3 times on previous trips to Kauai. I expected this hike to be easier than the SG but in reality it was about the same. On the day we hiked, it was VERY muddy and as a result, very slippery. There was also a large tree that had toppled down recently... More

My husband and I tackled this trail yesterday. The trail was muddy, so bring old shoes or hiking boots. We found it to offer lots of scenic views mixed in with forest foliage, birds singing, and local plant life. There was a large tree blocking the path we had to climb over, but it was not difficult to do. Small... More

This was a beautiful hike, with gorgeous rainforest views throughout. The ascent is nice and gradual most of the way, so it was easy on our toddler. It was a peaceful hike, a nice workout but not too strenuous. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, with a packed lunch. There is a picnic table area towards the... More
