This is a good walk along the cliffs. The drive into the area is on a dirt road, but no problem. There are blowholes, lots of lava and at the end a ceremonial rock circle.

This area is a great hike though you do have to be careful and not appropriate for young children. Beautiful views and amazing sandstone formations. If you are into sunrise photography, this is a great spot for that. Parking can be a challenge, though there...More

Great place to take a morning or evening stroll, I would not recommend taking little kids. You can hang over the cliffs if you want or jump in. I walked there every morning for the sunrise, awesome.

no warning sign, unmarked, unpaved, not safe for children. View was just ok compared to the Big Sur in California.

We walked to Shipwreck Beach from our hotel and just wanted to go up the cliff for the views. Then we started walking and walking and couldn't stop because the views were so pretty. If you're staying on the south part of the Island, I...More

The cliffs are a wonderful place to hike and photograph. Be aware that you are walking on sand and volcanic rock throughout, so it is not easy if you are unsteady. The views up and down the coast are awesome.

We did the hike which begins at Shipwreck Beach and continues for several miles along the coastline. The terrain can be a bit uneven due to lava rocks and exposed roots so good, comfortable shoes are a must. The hike passes ancient sacred spots of...More

Beautiful peaceful walk, few people as compared to North area. Would recommend comfortable shoes for all terrains as the landscape changes quickly (sand, rock, grass)

For the full hike, park at Shipwreck beach and hike along the coast. You can also park CJM Country stables and see the cave first. The Makaiwahi Cave trail is marked well. It was an amazing hike with gorgeous views!

Great hike just off of Shipwreck, can be hot. The different cliff views and scenery are interesting. If willing, there are areas to hike down the cliffs to the ocean - good fun for the sure footed!

The trail head begins at Shipwreck Beach. You can go into the caves but that is a special tour which I believe has a fee associated with it.

Yes, absolutely. It is more an area to explore than a linear path. You could go as long or short as they are up for but there are rocks to climb, and inlets with sleeping seals. Like everything with younger kids, it’s not... More
