We wanted to stay and camp once we got there. Sunset was amazing, waves were fun to watch but the water was just too big for my liking. Would go for the sunset but this is, like they sat, the hottest beach, talk about scorched...More

This is my favorite beach to visit but this year the road was so muddy that we passed one abandoned 4WD (probably a rental that was going too fast) and even our Subaru Forester had some sliding. Waves were good, tide was out so snorkeling...More

This beach takes a turn off the beaten path, then that path beats you for another 3 miles. Then you will burn little blisters into the tips of your toes. However, this beach is beautiful. NOT a place for swimming or snorkeling, the tide was...More

This State Park was definitely off the beaten path on the west side, remotely located at the the end of Route 50, even farther west than Waimea. The signage made it easy to find, but the five mile dirt rutted road to the beach took...More

Hard to get to. The road is not paved and super pot-holey. Only go if you have a jeep. Spectacular beach and views of the beginning of the Napali coast. You May be the only people there. Make sure to buy a guidebook like The...More

Was concerned after reading reviews of the road. Would a 4x4 be needed? Not the case at all. I can tell you that if there was heavy rains that would be a different story, but we had a mid-range SUV and the road was bumpy...More

Long stretch of wild beach where you can camp or enjoy long non touristy walks. The place to be at sunset. Not advisable for swimming, waves were rough. Only downside is the road out to the beach: dotted with potholes most of the way.

This beach takes a bit of determination to reach. Take the west coast Hwy 50 north thru Waimea, Kekaha, all the way to the end, turning right at the wye. If you turn left, you'll end up at the gate to Pacific Missile Range Facility,...More

We stayed in west Kauai and on our second night decided to "run out to Polihale" for the sunset. Big mistake! The 5 mile road is so rough that it takes 30 minutes or more to traverse. But when you make it to the end...More

As linh88 said, there is a small dirt parking area under trees (2-3 cars size). We were able to park there. We didn't drive or park on the sand.

I think so because camping is allowed and cars drive on the beach. But I can't recall seeing remnants of past fires when we were there
