This is one of the shorter walks in the state park. It has incredible views of the canyon and isn't too taxing. If you have a four wheel drive you can drive down the dirt road and cut out a lot of the walk (we...More

We stopped at the Kokee Museum to get a map and some advice about which hike to tackle since much of the written information seemed contradictory -some with "difficult" ratings. We were advised that the Canyon Trail hike was not particularly challenging so with that...More

We turned up expecting a map of the trails here and found the one sign for the Canyon Trail did not help much. We started down it, but were so uncertain of what lay ahead that we took advice from others who were finding it...More

We're in our 50s and had 2 teen-agers with us. We hiked to Waipo'o Falls starting at the Pu' u Hinahina trail, which is the most common launch point. Don't underestimate this hike. Parts of this hike are more of a climb than a hike...More

We did this trail as far as Waipo'o Falls. It was raining, so the trail was very muddy and slippery. Because it was raining, we were in the clouds, so the views left a lot to be desired. However, it was a very pretty hike,...More

Hiking in Kauai is a must...at any skill level. All the Flora, fauna and waterfalls can't be missed! Only thing that surprised me was there were rats at the waterfalls! They were darting in and out from behind big rocks and boulders. Can't blame them...if...More

Great trail but prepare for it with hiking boots and water. Just remember that the trail that goes straight down leads to a return trip that is all up hill.

There are trails from short and sweet to long and hard. Some can be slippery (loose dirt on rock). Bring plenty of water. It can be really hot with no shade and humidity like you have never seen before. There is a waterfall on one...More

This hike is quite short, has minimal elevation change, yet delivers a world class view. Be patient...the glorious views don't happen until near the end of the trail, but it is only a two mile hike out to the top of the Waipoo Falls. The...More

Just to add to Sylvie's response. she is correct, there are technically two starting points to the Canyon Trail. I have done both and the one that starts at Pu‘u Hinahina Lookout is the better more interesting path. The... More

Maybe some initial part. I would not be comfortable taking a 6-7 year old on this trek as some parts are tricky, although there are kids that age that we saw on the trail.

Hi Alyssa, Thanks for the great review. You mentioned a 20 minute walk over rocks. I'm wondering how long did it take you to do the roundtrip hike? Is it too treacherous for someone with low back issues? Also is the accidentally trail on the left worth going to for a swimming hole?

HI, well my spouse and I did this trail after it had been raining for most of the month, so it was muddy as I say in my recent review. On the back issues, I have a bad back, but it is never bothered by hiking, just sitting... More
