Russian Fort Elizabeth/Paʻulaʻula o Hipo is a National Historic Landmark and is administered as the Russian Fort Elizabeth State Historical Park just southeast of present-day Waimea on the island of Kauaʻi in Hawaiʻi. It is located at the site of the former Fort Elizabety, the last remaining Russian fort on the Hawaiian islands, built in the early 19th century by the Russian-American Company as the result of an alliance with High Chief Kaumualiʻi. The star fort was employed by the Kingdom of Hawaii in the 19th century under the name Fort Hipo (Hawaiian: Paʻulaʻula o Hipo).

It's an interesting story, so it might be worth a stop if you want to spend 15 minutes reading a piece of history. Otherwise, don't bother, all you can see from the ground is a pile of rocks.

If you are a history buff, this is a must see. If you are there for photos, although the vegetation is pretty, the fort is just a pile of rocks.

Interesting historical location for Russian influence in the mid 1800’s. Location has. Ice view of the ocean.

We stopped here to walk through to the mouth of the river where it meets the sea. Nothing to look at.

I can appreciate history but this was a complete waste of time coming here to this park. There is a pile of rocks in a circle. At least the state could make this more interesting, just keep moving along.

While driving along the road, we stopped by to see what the Russian Fort consists of. The answer is NOT MUCH. We walked around the site but didn't find it particularly impressive or interesting. There is plenty of free parking and no admission fee so...More

We noticed their road marker while driving down the road. We decided to drive to the site. We found little to see but the foundation of the fort and decided to move on without getting out of the car.
