Never having been on a black sand beach before this was a must stop for us. Great swimming beach and some caves to do a little adventuring in. It is absolutely beautiful here. Showers by the bathrooms on the way out too. The sand is...More

We spent hours in awe! We enjoyed hiking for miles along the coast. Couldn't stop taking pictures! Allow yourself some time to do some hiking. Take the trail on the other side of the beach up the hill. You won't be disappointed!

Passed the park up on the way into Hana, really happy we stopped on the way out. Better than the public beach in Hana. A little of a challenge to get into, bumpy road in a residential neighborhood, but worth it. Not super crowded, paved...More

This was our final stop before making the trek back to Kaanapli. It is beautiful. The day we went it was not warm enough to swim for our taste. There are bathrooms (no soap and not the cleanest). There are also vending machines for drinks....More

We went hiking from the black sand beach to the cliffs of lava!!! Very quiet and spiritual. We saw what look like pieces of very ancient housing. This is a must stop for all Hana visitors. Gorgeous views every where. There is a blow hole...More

Every time we drive to Hana, we are sure to stop at the Wai'anapanapa State Park. Take a walk to the blow hole, to the black sand beach and go beyond for a hike up to the top of the black lava cliffs and watch...More

We stopped there on our way back from Hana. Four a very small parking spot and walked to some overlooks. Great views. They have a black sand beach. If you skip it, it isn't that big of a deal. The road to Hana has countless...More

The park is busy in the day, quite a few folks around, we hiked and it was fine. I would recommend that you call in ahead and check what the outdoor camping facilities are, then make a decision about over night. all the... More
Hi everyone, First trip to Maui (actually Hawaii) and wondered what the best and most unique places were to visit as we travel the Road to Hana. It seems that there are alot of things to do (only looking to do about 3-4 I think) and not sure which are best. Oh, our group consists of adults in good health (ages 25-35) and kids ages 4-14. Thanks in advance guys.

Definitely make the stop at this park. My husband and I went in July for our honeymoon and we really enjoyed it. I would say it is #3 on my list. Make sure you venture into the caves. Our top other things to do would be a... More
