This road is gorgeous with more open views than the road to Hana. That said the one lane parts were too much for me. My husband was driving and he had no problem with backing up for other vehicles or pulling over but I was freaking out!

It will take at least half a day... depending on how many times you will stop to explore paths on the bluffs and take pictures. And there is something to see behind every bend in the road. No 4X4 required. There are many little beaches if you want to swim (no life guards). Pack a cooler with sandwiches and enjoy.

There is a lot of controversy over this trip, do it clockwise, or anticlockwise, 300+ ft drops with no guard rails, fantastic views, one lane roads, few places to pull over and let oncoming cars pass, you can't drive this with a rental car, and that you need a 4X4. What is true, is that this is a much more... More

A really lovely drive for scenery. We decided to go on a whim so hadn't done any reading beforehand, and I'm glad I didn't as I might have changed my mind. We went anti-clockwise in order to be on the side of the road best able to appreciate the view. It was a bit drizzly, but all the drivers we... More

This is a beautiful drive! Very narrow roads & many places where it's one lane. Go from the Ka'anapali side and head Northwest, then East to Kahului. Don't forget to stop by Julia's best Banana Bread and other stops, such as the Blow Hole! Definitely worth the somewhat dangerous drive!

We didn't know much about this road until we were on it- it's certainly an adventure! I agree with other reviewers, take clockwise route. The scenery is absolutely beautiful but there aren't too many places to stop for photos especially after the blow hole. Julia's banana bread stand was closed, assuming 5pm is closing time. The road is single car... More

Some will love this drive and some will hate it. Extremely narrow in places without guardrails. Best done clockwise so as to have the cliff side on the other side of the road. Know thyself and thy family. Very few options for turning around so don't get divorced over this drive. Bring a picnic, don't have unrealistic expectations about travel... More

Nice new two lane road as far as the Nakalele Blowhole - after that it becomes 1 lane for 15 miles with blind corners, narrow bridges, steep climbs and descents and a 300 ft drop off into the ocean. Going clockwise you are at least on the inside of the road when you meet local traffic . If you are... More

What a beautiful drive! Rivals the Road to Hana, in beauty and complexity, most definitely. We had clear skies and great weather. Many stops to admire nature's beauty along the way.

Well worth it. True, a bit narrow in places but with a competant driver, it made for a lovely trip. Nakelele Blowhole, Olivine Pools and Julia's Banana Bread are my top tips - especially the pools (take river shoes with you)
