Wade was highly recommended to us by seasoned travelers who now live in Maui for the winter. Wade was communicative and prompt. My husband and I had an amazing experience on the tour with Wade. It was worth every penny! He provided the car and paid for coffee/breakfast and lunch. He also had towels and water. The spots he took us to were breathtaking and interesting. Wade has done the trip 1200 times so he knows what to do. We come to Maui several times a year and hadn’t done this trip due to people’s opinion that it’s too stressful. Doing the tour with Wade was an amazing adventure....our favorite activity of all time on Maui. I feel like people should come to Maui for this tour alone. Definitely a bucket list item. Thank you to Wade for this wonderful tour. We hope to see you again on Maui!

I booked with Wade knowing that he was a one man show. I reconfirmed with him a few days before our prearranged tour date. He was going to pick us up from the cruise ship port. He cancelled the evening before via text message due to a family emergency. I asked him if he had any suggestions or back up plan. He said he tried to contact a friend but he was already booked with a tour, which was disappointing. I ended up being able to reach Maui Island Taxi Tour while I still had phone reception. That proved to be an excellent move on my part. Nick was fabulous! Also, be forewarned that Wade arranges to meet you outside of the port which most likely means that he may not have the proper licensure or insurance.

We hired Wade Holmes of No Ka Oi Adventures for a private tour on the Road to Hana. This was one of our best days, well worth the cost and highly recommend it. Many people said that you can follow an app to do the Road to Hana by yourself. While that may be true, it is unfair to the person driving as the road is very windy and some of the desired spots to stop may not be easily identifiable. This is not a road where you are going to want to turn around because you missed the spot to park for the waterfall. In addition, at some of the beaches, parking was quite limited and cars were being ticketed. Wade knew exactly where to go so no time was wasted. Also, our entire family then got to enjoy the day rather than having to worry about driving, parking, and timing. Wade picked us up at our hotel, took us to breakfast and then proceeded to all of the main attractions as well as to many hidden spots, including waterfalls, lava tubes, and indoor bathrooms along the way. He tailors the hikes to your abilities and allows you to spend as much time as you would like at each of the stops. At two of the waterfalls, our teenage boys were able to cliff jump which was something they very much wanted to do and Wade joined them. We also stopped along the way for banana bread, sampled fruit at a local stand, tried ice cream made from coconut milk and ate lunch at local food trucks - all included in our initial cost. A former school teacher, Wade provided us with the history of the island as well as shared his knowledge of local plants and wildlife. The tour lasts about 12 hours and included all food, transportation, drinks throughout the day, sunscreen, towels and most importantly, Wade.

As we were planning our trip to Maui, we decided that we would make the drive to Hana. I had been to Maui before but I didn’t do a trip to Hana then mainly because people I knew who made the trip said that the drive was hazardous and long. We knew from research that there was plenty to see and do, but we were concerned about inadvertently doing something that might upset local customs. We consulted Trip Advisor and found No Ka Oi Adventures. At first the reviews seemed mixed: late cancellations or the experience of a lifetime. Sometimes things happens when you’re an independent business person. We accepted the reviews as they were and contacted No Ka Oi and hoped Wade could fit us in. He did. We settled on a date (we provided options so if something came up we could attempt the drive ourselves.) Wade picked us up at our cottage, took us to breakfast ( Wade, seriously. That burrito was way too big,) and off we went. We accept that the island is beautiful, but Wade took us to places that redefined the word; so many beaches with waves so high they tear your shorts off if you’re not careful! Waterfalls to dazzle the eye and refresh the spirit. Cliff-jumping (I’m a wuss, Wade. What can I say.) when it was time to eat, three platters of Thai food in Hana (oh, so fresh and good), coconut ice cream and homemade banana bread too! The vistas were breathtaking. And, Wade, your knowledge of local customs helped us to appreciate the people who have long called this island home. So should you take a tour with No Ka Oi? Yes. Please remember that your guide is human and that things can come up. Vacations are meant to be fun and that means that we get to be flexible. Mahalo.

Wade cancelled the afternoon prior due to “health issues”. Didn’t offer an alternative days or any recommendations. The odds are favorable for a cancellation. Disappointing and not a great way to run a business.
