I was not aware that the start of the Civil War helped to end whaling in the Pacific. Take time to tour and read the history and all the photos and artifacts from the whaling era.

We were staying in westin next to the village and went here couple times during our stay. It's a nice area to spend couple hours
try the monkey pod restaurant its, brand new and has delicious food, lots of shops to buy souvenirs for friends or families
The village is really a shop mall but the museum was informative and small but worth the visit with good places to eat on the beach
Nice place to shop. In the past, the stores seemed to be very end shopping, but now they have a variety of price range stores. They have a huge ABC Store that has something for everyone.

We went to see the whaler's village museum. It's closed as they are relocating it. So you have a shopping village. Views are great and easy to get around. Parking is a challenge. Get a ticket upon entry and pay on way out. Parking spaces...More
