The state's largest wetlands

I usually ride my bicycle along the levee. It's a nice ride through the state's largest wetland. Always interesting.

If your a visitor you need a map or google. We enjoyed walking the path next to the wall for a couple miles from the freeway to the small park at the end. Lots of birds and waterfowl along the way. Parking is easy in the park lot.

I saw many birds along the trail. It was worthwhile for seeing marsh birds. Couple of things to know ... 1. The trail is mostly paved. There's a brief part between the parking lot and the start of the trail that is not paved, but it's easy to traverse. The paved portion of the trail is narrow, about three feet... More

This is a great effort to preserve this area and the eco-habitat in the marsh; which is a commitment to limit growth in Kailua

It's a nice short walk and if you are staying or living in the area certainly a good place to visit. I took the bus from Honolulu and spent more time on transit than being there. It's not meant to be a tourist attraction but rather a project to protect nature and wildlife, pls keep that in mind if you... More

Kawainui Marsh is a wetlands area with a dyke road running from Kailua Road to a small parking area at the end of Kaha Street in Kailua. It offers a beautiful view of the Ko'olau mountains and is especially nice early in the morning when the sun is rising, showing off the deep crevices in the mountains. The path is... More

Outside Kailua visitors will find an expanse of open country different from most in Hawaii. There never were many wetlands in the islands thanks to the vertical topography. Wetlands are nature's nursery where babies are born and the food chain begins. That describes this waterfowl wonderland to a tee. Remember, this is a breeding ground for many endangered species. Bird... More

Go early in the morning; go towards sundown. The colors of the mountains and the marsh change constantly; the variety of birds and other fauna enjoying the surroundings is never ending. The marsh is populated by lovely cattails and greenery of all kinds, much of it native to Hawaii. It's an easy walk but it's good exercise. It takes almost... More

There is a walkway along the marsh which is a pleasant stroll to view the marsh. It gets hot so go early in morning or late afternoon. No parking-have to park in Kailua town and walk along highway to get to entrance.

It is now a gorgeous, protected area, when I was small keiki was where we'd go to fish and hunt mongoose. It's even more beautiful now, especially in the late afternoon or early morning
