The history of Alcatraz is amazing and the audio tour provided is really good. The atmosphere of the prison is still very much as it was and the tour guide really makes you feel as though you were there!

I think this and a cable car ride is a must do while in San Francisco. My wife and adult children loved it! The audio walking tour is excellent and gives you a look into the world that was Alcatraz.

Take the automated tour and go at your pace. Outside grounds are nice to walk around as well. Ferry ride over is a bonus. You are imersed in stories and the lives of those who lived, worked and were incarcerated.

Definitely get tickets in advance. We booked a few weeks ahead the 9:10 tour to avoid the crowds. It still seemed crowded but then leaving we understood what ' crowded ' actually meant haha staring at the people coming in. The tours do book out....More

A must do in San Fran. My second trip and still very interesting- building work going on at the time meant it lost a bit of its mysterious feel to it but still enjoyable.

There is a cafe at Pier 33, a snack bar on the boat, and there is a cafe on Angel Island where you can purchase food and drinks. Since you're on the 9:30am departure, that means you're going to Alcatraz Island first. The... More
