These are "modern" streetcars, painted with the color schemes of the city's where this type of streetcar operated (though most of them are actually from Newark NJ). It's fun to ride down Market Street on these. They go from the Castro, the heart of SF's gay neighborhood, and then down the Embarcadero. Interestingly they're both a tourist attraction as well... Took these vintage streetcars down Market to the Embarcadero headed for Alcatraz Island departure. Very cool for history buffs. Highly recommended.

Riding the renovated vintage streetcars along Market Street is one of the best parts of a San Francisco experience. The F Line extends from Fisherman's Wharf, along the entire Embarcadero, and then along Market Street from downtown to the Castro. Many different sights to see along this very long route.

Great experience and way to get between main attractions of Union Square, Pier 39, Alcatraz Pier 33 and Farmers Market. The trams come from various parts of the world and all have their own character! The drivers are on he whole really helpful! $2.45 per trip - no change given. You get a ticket iff he driver and place your... More

These streetcars are a great way to get around market street as well as the embarcadero area. Most of the drivers were cordial. On Nov 11 around 6 pm were were standing by a stop close to the north end of the line. Apparently there were protests that were not allowing the cars to stay on schedule. We had about... More

We traveled on this transport system by the Embacadero. The ride was quite crowded but the antiquity of the vehicle was worth the crowd. This was an included form of transit with the 3 day Muni pass. It entitles the ticket card holder for unlimited trips on busses, cable cars and this railway.

When you are tired of walking the streets of San Francisco take a load off and ride the railway. You can get on and off where ever you like.

A great ride for not much money. We took the service from Union Street area down to Pier 39. Wonderful old vehicles a touch of nostalgia.

Cheap and quick ride on the F line. Was very busy in the afternoon with business getting out (I think). Good way to get around

If you are in a hurry take the Bart. If you don't want commentary with your journey, take the Bart. For me the F street car from uptown on Market to Pier 39 was a highlight. It was slow, noisy, edgy, scenic, laid back and with ongoing commentary along the way. Not so much about the detail of the touristy... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
