We walked to several different levels and never found a good viewing spot or angle for pictures. Much better to drive it or look up from the bottom to get a good view of Lombard

Just as iconic as the pictures. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to see the street but our tour group was taken there. If you are at the top of the hill and walk down the street on the left side one block you will find a set of stairs. I recommend walking to the top of the... More

This is a beautiful street in an obviously affluent neighborhood. There are lots of people taking picture but the city of San Francisco actually has a couple traffic police officers making sure everyone is safe and not disrupting traffic. If you're into time lapses, this is a fun place to set up for a quick, cool video

Beautiful street, very unique, excellent for the exercise routine, dotted with gorgeous homes that 99.8% of the population cannot afford ;-)

It is a very windy road. As advertised. As others have noted it is as hike up the street if you walk from the bottom. I believe there is a cable car route that will drop you off near the top. I snapped a photo and was done with it. Take a peak if it is on your way somewhere,... More

A Cozy street. With an awesome view. To capture great photos get there before the traffic and crowds.

The cable car stops at the top of the street. The best view is from the bottom of the street. The expressions ant squeals of the drivers and passengers who dared to drive the crooked street. It is an actual neighborhood so need to be respectful.

The street is quirky, worth a quick stop and a photo, but it is perhaps overhyped. It was once the world's steepest street. That honour is now held by Baldwin Street in beautiful Dunedin New Zealand - a great place to visit! My recommendation: catch the Powell/Hyde cable car, get off at the top of Lombard, fight you way through... More

My wife (from Poland) loved when we driving down the street. She thinks the people living there are crazy.

When visiting San Francisco you must drive Lombard Street! I have never driven down a cobble stone street this curvy anywhere in the world! The houses along the street are beautiful and unique also!

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
