We have been thrilling audiences in San Francisco since 1923. We are known for commissioning numerous world premieres, training some of opera's greatest young artists and being one of the world's leading opera companies. Come visit us during our fall season (September - early December) or our summer season (late May - early July) and enjoy an incredible night out.

Very disappointing, especially after several good reviews. A third of the audience left after the intermission, many open seats. No real plot, monotonous use of historical quotes, many without context

We saw Turandot (beautiful David Hockney sets and costumes and a great cast with wonderful voices) and Manon (It must be Manon! which had been on my bucket list for ages, in a tremendous new production - so stylish and imaginative, with gorgeous singers doing...More

The staging, talent and the opera house itself are all spectacular. We saw Turandot and the entire experience was eye and ear candy. We had orchestra seats and they were worth every penny. My opera experience is limited but I can't imagine much more that...More

I enjoyed this show. I attended a Sunday afternoon show and sat in the highest balcony. The cast and orchestra were really good. The theatre employees were professional and helpful. La Traviata is a beautiful opera and this cast did a great job with it....More

That was my first time at SF Opera. I went with a friend to watch Verdi's Rigolleto 2017 season. I was very pleased by the performance and with the structure. Staff, artists and orchestra were excellent. Bar service was perfect (little pricey but that's OK)....More

Unfortunately I was not impressed. The sound quality due to bad use of microphones was annoying and distorting. The seating was uncomfortable and the theater was hot and stuffy. Not a good evening.

Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.
