We used the steps to down from the Coit tower. Certainly easier down than up. Gets you down the bottom quickly but they are quite steep.

The steps offer a fantastic little stroll through the back gardens of peoples houses. There are a lot of steps so I wouldn't recommend going up! but going down is great and you overlook the bay as you descend. If you are planning to come...More

I've done it both ways. The Filbert steps seem safer on the way down. Less steep. The Greenwich steps are more scenic. Be sure to take the little side detours to lovely gardens. And watch for the parrots but dont get too close if you...More

Warning, you will be challenged going up these steps. Be prepared to rest a few times going up. Amazing views and you can actually walk by homes on the hill.

North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping
grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of
North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

Not sure what the address is but if you go to Coit Tower, both sets of stairs are on the street just below I believe. Since that is well known it will be easy to find and then you can ask someone if needed. Also if you are... More

The restaurant changed hands (don't know when) and became the Dalla Torre. The Dalla Torre closed in 2006 and the site was converted to a private residence.
