Once again, not a tourist destination, but another piece of SF history, which is worth stopping, reading, take a photograph and move on. It’s all these small pieces that make up the full history of most cities and shouldn’t be totally ignored.

This fantastic sculpture, set within a public space in SF is pretty cool and worth a look at is you are paying by. Not an 'attraction' in the same way as a theme park or museum but worth taking a look at.

If you are walking along Market Street, then definitely stop and look at this impressive bronze work of art because it represents a significant piece of history from bygone days.

When I lived in the city, I walked by this monument almost daily and it was not until I moved from the city and came back to visit that I took the time to stop, read the inscription and admire the monument. The Mechanics Monument...More

We stopped to take a photo of the Mechanics Monument. It is on Market Street. It is a bronze sculpture done by Douglas Tilden. Be sure to view it from different locations to see the mastery in this sculpture.

Here is a nice little monument depicting the shoreline in the 50’s. I thought it was going to be a dumpy little place but it is actually quite clean and a lovely place to rest your feet after a day’s trek hitting all of the...More

This a bronze sculpture by Douglas Tilden located at Market, Bush and Battery Streets. It seems to have been spruced up recently and originally celebrated the Union Ironworks.

Those who like historical tributes will want to pause at the Mechanics Monument. It's easy to stop during a walk down Market Street from the trolley car turn around to the bay where several landmarks and statues may be viewed.

I'm a local. Last time i walked past this monument there was garbage on it and around it. This negated any desire to stop ams read the inscription.

The Mechanics Monument used to be where homeless hung out, bike messengers rested and pigeons pooped. No more. Not since the entire monument was re-landscaped and steam cleaned. And not since they posted a round-the-clock DPW employee in a yellow vest to clean tables, pick...More

South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated
