Alma Spreckels collected many Rodin bronze sculptures in the early part of the 20th Century and donated them to the City of San Francisco Fine Arts Museums. The "Thinker" is located in the courtyard entrance, with many more inside. Totally worth a visit for an unforgettable afternoon of Rodin! There is also a cafe on the museum's lower level....perfect for... More

We were thrilled to be able to visit this lovely art museum that houses a collection that spans four millennia of history. The museum sits majestically overlooking the city, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Pacific Ocean beyond. When we arrived, the museum was covered in a deep fog. You could barely see it and the Golden Gate Bridge beyond.... More

We visited for the Legion of Honour Claude Monet special exhibition. The Legion of Honour is one of our favourite Bay Area art museums; when we miss the art museums in Europe, this museum gives us a taste, however briefly. The audio guides could be more informative. The cafe provides a peaceful respite and serves wine. If you visit this... More

Delicious local foods really caught my attention. As a bit of a mushroom hunter myself, it was lovely to find fresh morels, black truffles, and lovely oyster mushrooms on display. The wine shop and olive oil tastings were another standout treat for a foodie like me. Worth a visit!

Exceptional exterior with views of the ocean, tall trees, and golf course. Many benches along the ocean and nearby road - good picnic spots. Hiking trails and paths around the museum. Moderate museum collection - quite small as compared to the Metropolitan Museum of New York or most European museums. Rotating exhibits can be hit's or miss's. Nice cafe where... More

After the beautiful Monet paintings, extend the pleasure and head upstairs to the café and enjoy a delicious lunch - Chef Jay's vegetable curry with rice is perfection and the quiche is also delicious!

We have seen many exhibits at this wonderful museum over the years and have just stopped in to wander the courtyard to see the Rodin even if not going in. We saw a Monet show and it and the audio (rent the device for extra) were really excellent. Parking was rather tight and it took us quite a while to... More
