This hideous building looks like the inside of a washing machine. It's really ugly, one of San Francisco's least loved buildings. And it sits on a cold wind-swept open square. Avoid it.

The exterior is certainly imposing, but for some reason it didn't really draw us in. It doesn't seem very inviting from the outside. My husband and I just happened to be walking by, trying to kill time, when we decided to go inside. The inside is certainly worth the detour! It's beautiful. The architecture is phenomenal and the stained glass... More

Outstanding architectural design, executed incredibly....to even the slightest of details as how the heating system emanating from the floor keeping people warm as they come to praise the Lord. It all looks so serene and easy and not complicated in the sleek modernistic package, but it is as complicated as man's relationship with the heavens and spirit and God. I... More

I'll start by saying St Mary's Cathedral left me feeling very conflicted. As a building, it is a very impressive example of mid-century architecture. A huge, vast concrete structure. An engineering marvel. As a church, it left me feeling very cold and uninspired. Not at all traditional, and unlike any other cathedral I've seen. Built in the 1960's I'm sure... More

The Religious Images were beautiful and made me feel so peaceful. We dropped by because this was part of the tour group.

A must-see for aficionados of modern church architecture. The interior spaces are vast, with sweeping curves in every direction. The exterior probably is not as impressive as the interior ... so don't miss it.

Wait until you go inside. Breathtaking. A moving spiritual experience just standing within. From the outside it is big and imposing with a 1960s modern style (it opened in 1971) that didn’t really move us. Like with humans, it is the inside that counts. It is beautiful, warm and full of art everywhere inside, a love poem to God, and... More

It has a very nicely designed modern look. The materails used in construction looks very high quality and smooth. It has a different catchy design cathedral.

This cathedral is amazing. It looks special already from the outside but step in and see the real gem. Everything seems to be one huge concrete structure that lays on only a few columns into which it organically transforms and that are actually pretty subtle. And around that is just natural light coming through the glass walls... It feels like... More

You have to visit this Cathedral which is an easy walk from the city. What amazing architecture. I would have loved to hear the organ playing but of course we were not there unfortunately for a Mass. The lights are amazing as are the sculptures. If you want information about the Cathedral there is always someone willing to inform you... More
