I took my son and his friend to Angel Island for both a play date and an educational adventure to the Immigration Station for a school project. We took the ferry from Tiburon (a ten-minute ride) to Ayala Cove on Angel Island. We hiked up a steep trail with steps to the Perimeter Road. From there it was a little... More

We took the boat to Angel Island and Alcatraz on the same trip. Angel Island is a state park and protected. It contains only scenery and derelict, mostly wartime buildings, which you can see from a tram ride. There are stunning views of the bay as you travel round the Island. The tour is accompanied by an audio explanation of... More

We made a day of it by taking the first ferry over and the last ferry back. You can buy a ticket on the shuttle to get to the US Immigration Station historical site. They are understaffed so ranger tours are only being offered to school groups, not the general public. Nonetheless the site is well curated and has a... More

Take the ferry to the park with a picnic and enjoy your day biking, hiking, or just relaxing in the sun. Check, since there might be food available there now too. The bike ride to the top is a bit tough, but it's worth pushing your bike if you need to in order to get to the view from the... More

I don't why people go to Alcatraz when you can visit this beautiful island. It has walks for all abilities, a dramatic summit view, military history, a nice cafe (try the nachos), friendly staff. There are good amenities. Don't just stick to the harbour area but climb the summit and be rewarded with a 360 degree view of San Francisco,... More

We went to Angel Island because it was included in our Alcatraz tour and I'm so glad we went! As part of the tour, there is a tram that takes you around the island and provides you the history of the Chinese internment camps and how the soldiers returned there after World War II. I was a great lesson in... More

Everyone immigrated to the US at some point. So, to get a sense of what it felt like and how the Federal government treated your people take a ferry ride over and take a lesson on life.

Hike or take a tram ride to learn about the "Asian" Ellis Island and US military history. Very unexpected history.
