Not especially pretty with all the construction for the new subway, so the area around Union Sq. has seen better days. The tunnel goes under Nob Hill and is functional, but don't walk through it as it is dirty and polluted. And then you emerge...More

A very orientalist version of the Chinese experience. You can find pressed duck, mah Jong, woks, live chickens, and produce.

It leads you to Union Square, your hotel, shops and tons of restaurants. This is a nice street but while we were there they had portions of the road torn up. If you go to Union Square you'll end up on Stockton at some point.

I often find myself on Stockton Street during visits to San Francisco. This long North/South thoroughfare runs between Market and Beach streets and includes a tunnel that extends for a bit more than two blocks. Buses travel the street regularly and many can be picked up...More

Stockton street is the main market street in the area of Chinatown, where fresh produce is sold from shops and stand all across it. Weird Chinese stores selling exotic foodstuff that doesn't have an English name and an Asian candy shop where only the brave...More

I stayed on Stockton Street for business and over the 4th of July weekend this year. It's a relatively quiet street, but the entire length features a wide range of shops, restaurants and attractions. If you get time to walk it, it's fascinating.

San Fran...the city that never sleeps....not. We couldn't find a parking space until just before 6:00 pm and at 6:00 pm the vast majority of the shops closed. A few restaurants still open but it was a disappointment.

There are several shops on the street with everything you can think of. Pressed duck and prepared food, clothes, vegetables, silk komonos, lottery tickets, all sorts of fun things. It's crowded with elderly Chinese people doing their daily shopping, and the language is a sharp...More

Stockton Street takes you through the less travelled roads in Chinatown. Make a visit to this part of Chinatown as it is less touristy and far removed from the crowds elsewhere.

Stockton Street from Columbus to the tunnel is the commercial center of the real Chinatown. It is an interesting walk that you should consider doing.... Let's start with the negatives: 1) nothing touristy here (except maybe Kong Chow Temple --- one of two temples that...More

As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's
Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique

dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who
gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or
practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands,
