Fun & Fantastic Music Store is a MUST for Collectors!

I was overwhelmed by the size and scope of this amazing, legendary music store. Anything doing with music: albums, 45s, posters, DVD, CD, books... it's here. All genres. I... read more

I was overwhelmed by the size and scope of this amazing, legendary music store. Anything doing with music: albums, 45s, posters, DVD, CD, books... it's here. All genres. I happily spent an hour in here. I collect 45's and barely had enough time to get through what I wanted. If you collect, 2 hours is really more a minimum. I... More

I have been the the Amoeba Store in LA and looked forward to seeing this version. As a fan of gypsy jazz Iwas looking for cds by Bireli Lagrene and Stochelo Rosenberg and found both. There is also a good selection of posters by Monkey Ink (John Howard.)

I had a great time in Amoeba Music. I found all the albums (and more!) in vinyl that I never would have found as easily back home. I found the staff to be super helpful and I loved the fact that they took my bag upon entrance since that was one less thing for me to carry and my arms... More

I've never been to this record store before but decided to go on advice from a friend. The place is huge with a good selection of both new and used vinyl and CD'. I believe they also sell DVD's but I wasn't interested. I did find a few new LP's and some hard to find used albums that were priced... More

We had read about this place, and put it on our "List" to visit as we planned our Trip to San Francisco. To be totally honest, we were disappointed. "Amoeba" is located in what seems to be quite an "edgy" neighbourhood. This became clearer to us as we were asked to deposit our Bags by (pleasant) Security People on arrival.... More

America's biggest independent music store is a temple for music lovers and musicians. Find whatever you were looking for, and stuff you didn't even know existed, plus tons of cool rare merch of your favorite artists! Very friendly staff as well.

I heard so much about it so I had to go then visiting SF. Great selection and I bought a CD. When buying it, the guy seemed alright enough - I paid him and he took me to the end of the counter so I could exit. I went back in to find my wife when he said "You can't... More

This shop has got a real old school feel to it back to when music was not just itunes. You can find any CD, Tape or Venyl from every artist you want in Amoeba. The people that work there are so passionate and truly know their stuff so just ask for suggestions! You might discover music you love.

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighbourhood Profile
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighbourhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
