This building is so beautiful, and the inside is even more spectacular. There's an amazing sundome and staircase, but the place is closed right now. There may be something happening in the future, but for now, walk by and enjoy!

Unfortunately it looks as though Xanadu is no longer in this building. When I visited today the place was closed up with a big 'to lease' notice across the window. Peering through the window the place looked empty. What a shame! I hope I'm wrong, or at least that the building opens to the public again soon. The architecture inside... More

A beautiful gallery with drool-worthy jewelry and objects d'art from Asia and Africa. The building that houses this stunning collection was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Although this isn't strictly an attraction - it is an art gallery just off Union Square which has many beautiful pieces for sale - it is the only Frank Lloyd Wright building in San Francisco. The prototype for the Guggenheim in NYC, it is incredibly beautiful inside, and you are welcome to go in and look around, even if you... More

This store is tucked on a little street just off Union Square that has a European feel (dining tables set in the middle of the street just up from the gallery). While the merchandise is mostly very pricey antiquities, and the staff is very friendly and willing to take them out and show you the items, the main reason to... More

I entered the Xanadau Gallery on Maiden Lane and was impressed by the superb art collection. I also noticed that they had similar Japanese art prints to some that I had at home. The staff there is very good and willing to answer all the questions I had and gave very good answers. Its impressive place to go for this... More

Just off Union Square we found the Xanadu. It has had several names over the years but is special in that it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It is free entry and when inside it had the spiral walkway just like Wright's other design - the Guggenheim in New York. The displays were mainly Chinese dynasties showing carvings and... More

This is Frank Lloyd Wright's only building in San Francisco, and it's an unknown treasure! Originally designed as the V.C Morris Gift Shop, The building now houses the Xanadu Gallery. They have lovingly restored the building and are proud as punch to let you roam around it at your leisure.. The building was designed in 1948, and incorporated the now... More
