Whitehead has an eclectic collection of history to include an early 1900's Fire truck, Judge Roy Beans saloon and courthouse and the man himself and his son are buried there, too! There are military uniforms, rich historical facts about the area and the participants of the era. Historical train cars, churches and many other true artifacts are there for you... More

We went here specifically for the grave of Judge Roy Bean, but there is a lot to see here. There are multiple building with different themes, such as an old Dr's office, farming equipment display, a couple of talking parakeets etc. It is a neat place for kids to run around and explore and for adults as well.

To be honest, this is a gem of a museum. Probably half the people who live here don't even know it exists, and most of the other half have never been. They are missing a treat. It focuses heavily on local history, but keep in mind that the history of Del Rio is representative of other border towns, especially in... More

We've been to the Whitehead Museum on more than one occassion for regular visits and during some of the cities' events. I have to say I almost do not understand the existence of this museum. I know it is a historical place and has its own historical marker but once you visit it one singular time for any given reason,... More

I am native of Del Rio, Born and raised just 20 generation of mine before me. These people running the museum have no clue of the history of Val Verde county, much less it's culture and heritage.....

Really friendly staff, convenient parking. Museum has all sorts of artifacts from the area, including quite a bit about Roy Bean. Enjoyed trying to lasso a fake cow. Definitely need at least an hour in this place to be able to see everything!
