History of Los Alamos and the Manhattan Project
The MPNHP is closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so we did not get to go inside. However, there is a Los Alamos Visitors Center in the same building. The lady there gave us plenty of information about the historical landmarks in the area. We had a great visit to the Los Alamos History Museum across the street.

    Important piece of US history
This was a worthwhile trip but not a ton of stuff to do. Just walking the grounds was enough. Undoubtedly, you would get more from the 2-hour guided tour. The drive up the side of the mountain was great also. Nice 1/2 day trip.

Check in for a map or to ask questions but explore on your own.
Fear not if it is closed when you visit during the week! The displays are minimal although we enjoyed an informative park interpretive ranger walk around Ashley Pond. Park service doesn’t own any property so no fee and you can walk, or drive, the exterior sites on your own. Try one of the other museums for more in depth exhibits. Note: the historic laboratories were here but were torn down long ago.

    Interesting location
To reach this location, you go through security gates, id, purpose. They let us on through but with restrictions of what mainly not to be photographing, which is fine. I understand about the security aspect. We didn't spend a tremendous amount of time in the area but did appreciate what it meant.

    Interesting historical site
The rangers at the visitor center were very helpful and knowledgeable. We walked down Bathtub Row and saw the various buildings, including the museum, lodge, and one of the houses. The docent in the house that's open was a wealth of knowledge too. Since we had recently seen the movie, we especially enjoyed seeing the actual sites.

The history was amazing! Multiple exhibits that were each full of information that was easy to follow. We were there 2+ hours and could of stayed another one or more.

Really loved the grounds with a lovely pond and luscious grass. This is an oasis in the desert. Our senior dog loved the first grass he’s experienced on this vacation.

There is a walking trail across the street from the visitors center that has markers in front of several sites related to the Manhattan Project. It is an easy, leisurely walk. There is also a replica guard checkpoint for photo ops a few miles drive to the entrance to Los Alamos.

Start your visit in the Los Alamos history museum, do the walking tour, then finish here. The very knowledgeable volunteer staff here will answer any questions you still have and more!

the Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos is a must see. It does a great job describing the Manhattan Project with multimedia but also explaining difficult Science in a way that's engaging for adults. Most science museums are not up to date or geared for kids only. Nuclear medicine, nanotechnology, cutting edge fuels in details. There's a lot interactive for kids too.
