Loved this place. Different than the other ruins we have seen. New things to learn.

Parts of this ancient trail are pretty strenuous but anyone with modest physical prowess can do it. As others have noted, it is not a site overwhelmed with tourists, allowing visitors to get an idea of the serenity and beauty surrounding the Ancient Puebloans who...More

This place is hard to find but worth the effort. We loved the trail, the terrain, the views and the caves. Keep your eye out for the trail signs. Be sure to head for the ladders at the beginning and not walk to far on...More

Totally agree that this hike through ruins is a lesser known gem in the area. It has fewer cave dwellings but more views than Bandolier. Do both! Be forewarned that, although it's a short hike, it's got a lot of elevation so it can be...More

Okay, I think if you have seen one set of SW ruins, you have seen them all... Tsankawi, on State Highway 4, at the edge of Bandelier National Monument is easy to find, can be not too crowded, and is a nice and unchallenging walk...More

This small section of Bandelier is separate from larger portion of the national park. There is a 1 1/2 mile round trip hike that in my opinion was just as impressive, if not more so than Bandelier's larger section. The hike takes you higher and...More

Tsankawi is part of Bandelier NP, but easier to get to. It was a home to the Anasazi and their history remains here. We first visited 30+ years ago and it still enchants us. The pathways worn into the soft stone, cave homes and many...More

We really enjoyed this trail with its ladders and a couple of tricky parts. There were not a lot of people when we were there late in the afternoon. The parking is along the highway on the right heading toward Santa Fe from White Rock.

This is a great place to take a hike around an ancestral pueblo village. This is a part of Bandelier National Monument (either have your parks pass and hang it from your rear view mirror OR pay the park fee AT the trail head); however,...More

We loved our hike here. Slightly challenging but the views were breathtaking. Not as crowded as bandelier

This is the companion site to Bandelier National Monument. For some reason, it is not well known. Only a few miles from the main site, it is well worth the stop.

There are a few drops so you would need to hold hands and there is one short ladder but i suspect your 5 year old could hold on to you when you use it. Otherwise it is easy. Fyi parking is overpriced if i recall correctly... More

The only info I can share is that we got there at 8 AM on a Sunday and there was no crowd which was really nice. By the time we were leaving around 9:30 people started arriving so early is good!

I agree with the previous answer. Too much slick rock and unprotected ledges.
