The Los Alamos Historical Society preserves, promotes, and communicates the remarkable history and inspiring stories of Los Alamos and its people for our community, for the global audience, and for future generations. These stories are told in the multiple buildings of the Los Alamos History Museum through exhibits on the Ancestral Pueblo people, the homestead era, the Los Alamos Ranch School, the Manhattan Project, and the Cold War. The museum includes a gift shop and is open from 9-5 weekdays and 10-4 on weekends.

In Santa Fe for the SF Opera’s production of “Doctor Atomic”, we took a day trip to Los Alamos to visit this museum. There is currently a very interesting photo exhibit of Robert Oppenheimer’s life. The museum and the bookstore do an excellent job providing...More

The museum does a great job explaining life in Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. Unfortunately most of the structures from that era are gone. The walking tour is very nice, and smaller than it seems on the map.

The Bradbury museum was not open until 1pm on Monday, so while driving we stumbled onto this relatively new small museum, which has knowledgeable guides, and which includes several old restored buildings from the mid 1940s. This includes the Boys school lodge, which was the...More

A great museum to visit. They are expanding everyday. So enjoyed all the buildings they have open to the public. Lots of great information about the local life as Los Alamos off during the war.

The walking tour they offered was good, lasted about 90 minutes. For those there because of a singular interest in the Manhattan Project, be aware that much of the tour is about the history of the town in general, and that almost all of the...More

Worth the trip North from Santa Fe! You'll learn about the start of Los Alamos and it's history with the first atomic bombs! Very cool!

We paired a visit here with a trip to the Bradbury Science Museum; the latter covers in more detail the Manhattan Project. The Los Alamos History Museum is “just enough” history for the visitor-it will take 1-2 hours and you will see the very interesting...More
