I went to the candlelight tour. They said it showcased life at the fort during 1843. I found the reinactors were great and the fort at night was something I will never forget. The tour is every year, but fills up fast. I registered at...More

We had previously visited Fort Larned NHS and these two National Park Service facilities together do an excellent job of showing what life must have been like during the days when the Santa Fe Trail was a major commercial route. The fort is reconstructed but...More

We loved this place, it is so well done and understated, we truly felt like we back in time, this is not gimmicky or sensationalized at all. Their sensitivity to recreating the past is exceptional, an absolute treasure.

Even though this is not the original buildings: it appears to be a very accurate restoration. Many of the buildings and exhibits appear very realistic, and has many vintage items on display. Make sure you watch the film first though, It will help you enjoy...More

I really hate giving any National Park site a bad review. It really bothers me to do so. On the positive note, the reconstruction of the old fort is spectacular. Once you enter, it is total immersion into the history of the area. Even if...More

This is a reproduction of the old fort. Employees dress in period clothing. Spent less than an hour walking to every room with the interpretive guidebook.

My guess is not too many people know about this place which is ironic given its significance in the history of The Great American West and the Santa Fe Trail from 1833 to 1849 when, it is said, the owner of the place blew it...More

View what it was like in the past at this 1846 fort. There are two stories, each with various furnished rooms. The fort was one of the most significant centers of the fur trading along the Sante Fe Trail. We recommend coming on weekends when...More

This reconstruction of an early to mid-1800's adobe trading post is outstanding. The NPS has done a good job of recreating the look and feel. The rangers also do a good job as reenactors. We visit lots of NPS sites, and this was one of...More

It is about 10 miles from La Junta to Bent's Old Fort. The roads are paved and well maintained.
