This jewel of a park that's often overlooked because it's not as convenient as some other National Parks (Smoky Mtns. Natl. Park, Shanondoah Natl. Park, etc), but that means it's not as crowded in the Fall, a great time to visit and explore. This huge...More

Big South Fork is big and can be approached from many directions as the center is a fairly wild river for its historic importance to the Upper Cumberland area. I only had time and weather conditions to see two areas but plan to return for...More

Visit Blue Heron Mining Community (free). Drive there or ride scenic railway ($$). Hike to Yahoo Falls and to lots if sandstone arches in park. Canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting.

We love the trail system here there's something for everyone. Some trails have ladders to scramble down, other trails are pretty flat. Horses and mountain bikes are accommodated too. The campgrounds are excellent! Many people bring their horses to stable and ride.

We stayed at Bandy Creek. It’s a nice, clean campground with plenty of large sites. Our camper is 27” and we had no problem finding a site large enough.

Most all of the trails are wide enough that dogs should not have any trouble and in the summer you should not have to worry about long periods of rain that would cause the trails to be flooded and cause problems. On our... More
