If you are a runner, hiker, outdoor enthusiast, then this is a great location for you! Dogs are great companions also if you have the opportunity. The maintained paths are to be admired and the wildlife is accessible. Happy Hiking

We live very close to Bent Creek, but we tent camp with kids at Bent Creek almost every year, just because it's so convenient. The camp sites are well maintained and quiet, and the bath houses are clean and have showers. Lake Powhatan is small but nice. There are miles of trails through the forest for hikers and mountain bikers--just... More

Bent is a bear sanctuary and, as the title of the forest denotes, an experimental area for the rangers. Some studies are more than eighty years old. And it is big brother is the Pisgah National Forest. There are over 44 miles of trails for the masses. You can hike and bike. There is swimming and camping, too. There are... More

I love Bent Creek for so many reasons. First of all, it's close. I can't always escape for a whole day on a hike in the blue ridge or a 30 minute commute, this is close to Asheville and it's the perfect escape to nature. It's also free if you park at a certain place for the trails- I think... More

This makes for a nice hiking/walking area near Asheville. It can be tough to find, so don't blindly trust your GPS.

So close to town and yet once you're there, you feel you're a million miles away in the wilderness. There are trails galore, from a short walk around Lake Powhatan to all-day treks. Good for mountain biking and great place to bring the dogs. Trails are mostly easy--flat to gently rolling terrain and much of it is on dirt roads.... More

I started mountain biking in the 1980's (Old School) and later got into (and became snobbish about) road biking. So I really wasn't aware of the awesomely high quality bikkes that are now on the market. I went with my son-in-law and other hard-core bikers on amazingly fun (and challenging) trails. With these new bikes I felt as if I... More

First off, I must agree with others in that the park is a very nice layout with lots of trails available and easily accessible. However, with the exception of a few, the staff is unbearable and rude. They are more like our Military protecting a strategic base operation than they are helpful attendants at a family campground. Entering a campground,... More
