Plenty more to see besides Thomas Wolfe and O Henry, although those guys are must sees! A lot of families whose names belong to streets around Asheville, can also be found resting here. The trees are beautiful especially in fall. Plenty of ornate monuments to see.

Riverside Cemetery features graves of many famous people and those whose lives were lived quietly and in obscurity. It is a peaceful place of rest adjacent to downtown Asheville.

Stop at the gate and pick up the map and list of significant graves (with information about each person) that is so informative and necessary in navigating the cemetary. I was particulary interested in seeing Thomas Wolfe's and O. Henry's graves. It was early on a cold morning, and I was short on time, or the cemetary would be a... More

This old cemetery is wonderful to walk around in and just to sit and ponder. Several famous people are buried here.

This is a pleasant walk through the past and close to a nice amphitheater. Fun to look at the graves of such famous contemporary American writers.

This was a highlight of a recent family visit. We took the Thomas Wolfe house tour and then came to the cemetery to visit his family gravesite.

We saw this cemetery while on a Segueway tour. It is a historic cemetery (Thomas Wolfe, Gov. Vance are buried there), It is still "in use" so be respectful of funerals in progress.

We were looking for the asylum where Zelda Fitzgerald lost her life (like that really cured her depression, for good!) when we came across this place. reminds me of the cemeteries in Paris... no Oscar Wilde here, but O Henry is (not to be confused with the candy bar, OK?)! hey, i could spend a lifetime here...as many are!

We went and walked around, took pics of some interesting headstones. Shame there has been some vandalized. Then a storm blew in and we had to leave.
