Our guide for both halves of this tour was wonderful. We split it into two days which gave us time to enjoy shopping and dinner at unique places along the trail. Strongly encourage taking a guided tour as there is so much history and back ground information the guides share.

I think this walking tour of Boston was just right. We started at the Boston Public library and ended almost two hours later at Faneuil Hall and saw a lot of the city, covered many subjects, and a lot of ground. We had a fine time doing it even in the January cold. Do not take this tour if you... More

Really enjoyed this tour. The guide Alan was very knowledgeable, and provided some great insights on the city. Would definitely recommend.

I would have given 5 stars to this fun tour during which we walked through several beautiful neighborhoods and learned a ton of the history and many famous Bostonians, but for one thing--the cultural stereotype that I perceived from our tour guide. For instance, when he asked if my friend and I knew the word "hermit" and we gave different... More

I apologize for the misunderstanding. That would never be my intention to stereotype. When I give the demographics of Boston's population, it is grouped by subset the way the census data appears. Asian is not broken down further, in the same way the Hispanic population is lumped together. I am so sorry you felt this or anything else said on... More

I really hesitated to post a negative review. But I've reconsidered because I WISH I had known how awful this walking tour was before buying tickets. I have done many outstanding and informative walking tours in many cities over the years -- this one was the most expensive and also the absolute worst. The guide was a very nice man,... More

While I am not surprised that your extensive research and fact checking corroborated the information and facts given on the tour, I am saddened that you missed the essence of our tours: to craft together all that information into stories that highlight Boston's history and architecture into an interesting and cohesive package that gives you insights into the background and... If you're interested in history - this is the tour for you. My family went on the two hour tour that took us to neighborhoods we definitely wouldn't have thought to explore on our own. Our guide, the owner, was fantastic. We had accidentally signed up for the wrong day and he took us anyway! The walk was a little... More

Alan did a wonderful job of explaining the history, the development, the architecture and the famous inhabitants of downtown Boston! He made sure to ask people if we needed a bathroom break, if the wind was too brutal and if we were comfortable stopping and standing in specific places. He should be lauded for his compassion for the attendees, his... More

We enjoyed the tour.....and our tour guide, Alan. He was knowledgeable and took us to all the highlights. Our only issue was that we had to leave right when the tour ended, but it was still going at that time, so we missed one or two things. Otherwise I would have given it a 5 star. The history was great,... More

We took both the Downtown/Copley square tour and the North End tour with Al, who was a fun, knowledgeable, energetic Boston local. Both walks were just the right amount of time and covered just enough distance. Recommended!

Our tour with Boston Citywalks was fun, informative, and a highlight of our visit to the city. The guide was an engaging, native Bostonian and well-versed on the city. It was great!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
