What a peaceful and serene place the Japanese Friendship Garden is. We went when it first opened and that was great because there was nobody around and it made for a much better pictures not waiting for people to walk by. There were many koi...More

My husband and I last visited in 2013. They were just beginning the expanded lower area of the Japanese Garden. At that time it was a pretty, peaceful, short walk around, which we enjoyed. We've been to a number of other Japanese gardens since then...More

Peaceful escape. This beautifully landscaped garden, with koi pond, cultural architecture and pathways along the sloping canyon -- and a gently cascading stream is heavenly. Even better during the cherry blossom season!

This garden is just average. The koi pools are great. The canyon and the plants just didn't seem very Japanese to me. Balboa park is already a beautiful 'garden'; why pay extra to walk down the hill?

The waterfalls, perfectly positioned benches, and beautifully landscaped gardens make this a perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon. The pathways are stroller and wheelchair accessible. A must visit area of Balboa Park.
