We were lucky enough to stay on Shelter island. Has a little bit of everything for everyone. Plenty of good restaurants, bars and mom n pop hotels. Decent beach and defiantly less crowded than other beaches in the area. Worth the trip.

We love SHELTER ISLAND more, with all its nice walking paths, but HARBOR ISLAND does have better sunsets.

Okay, I live in a postcard when it comes to Shelter Island. From The Bali Hai to the Kona Kai, with Fathom Bistro in the middle, what's not to love?

I have stayed at every hotel in Shelter Island and not one will disappoint. Views from every room are fantastic. Everyone is very friendly, the night time walks are beautiful and not an overly busy area. Local restaurants are great and a lot of things in walking distance.

Took a Hornblower Cruise that started from Harbor Island and went both directions. Excellent narration of rare ships. Windy weather did not detract from the enjoyment if one is dressed right.

Sometimes when you take a wrong turn > you wind up in the right place. That's exactly what I did trying to avoid another dreadful red light in town. I wound up down at the shelter Island Marina which was really cool. They had a bunch of dining establishments on the water and its a nice little walking town. Definitely... More

We visited both locations as part of the 59-mile scenic drive. Lovely water and boat views. At Shelter Island, we ate lunch at Brigantine's. We really enjoyed it.

Beautiful views and easy walking Several restaurants in the area. The walk is free! Bring walking shoes and sunscreen. This is a pleasant walk even in cooler weather.

We live in San Diego County, up in the mountains, so we enjoy mid-week getaways several times a year and Shelter Island/Harbor Island are our favorites. There are several reasonable and nice hotels, beautiful walking paths, views of bays and harbors, the skyline of San Diego is amazing! Great restaurants too. If we want to skip the restaurant scene, Liberty... More

One of my favorite daily activities is to walk around Shelter Is. early in the morning before it wakes up to the bustle of the shipyards, yacht clubs (5), and tourists. At the tip near the Coast Guard station you can catch a glimpse of the Osprey couple nesting atop a pole. Along the shoreline you'll see a public fishing... More
