No crowds and just as good as the Grand Canyon. No charge to enter. You have a choice of drive yourself to viewing spots OR PAYING A GUIDE FOR HORSE RIDE OR JEEP TOUR IN THE CANYON. Hotels are available on campus and the tour would take about 3 hours to see all the lookouts. From the lookouts, you can... More

We spend one day in the canyon and the next day on our drive out and toward Monument Valley we drove the North Rim Drive. Each of the turnouts so worth the time and energy to walk out and peer down into the canyon. It was somewhat scary walking out to the overlooks as it is not clearly marked and... More

Longer walks on solid rock to access these views, rather than the parking lot stops on the south rim. Still worth the time to take in the views of the canyons below.

There are only three overlooks along the north rim which is a 34 mile round trip. Consequently, it doesn't take as long to do this drive compared with the south rim. However, the views from the overlooks are just as spectacular as those from the south rim.

North Rim Drive / Canyon de Chellay : three viewpoints, each rugged in their own way, show more about the canyon not visible from the South Rim. The rock face surfaces are more iron-rich, and the flora seem different. Worth the scramble to the view points. I find the rails and rock walls not quite high enough and in need... More

If you have time. Drive the north rim after the south. There are two stops and there's a bit of a hike. Worth doing if you have time.

My wife & I did the North Rim drive on a blustery, cold November morning. We were the only people at each overlook, which was very nice. The views are spectacular. Amazing rock formations. The walls are very sheer and the drop-offs so sheer at the overlooks you get a funny feeling in your stomach just looking over. At the... More

Go early in the morning for a beautiful sunrise! Hike the rocks to the last overlook to see ancient ruins. Look DOWN to see fields planted with crops amidst the cottonwood trees.

Although I much prefer the drive and views along the South rim, if time allows the three stops here should not be missed.
