My wife & I did the North Rim drive on a blustery, cold November morning. We were the only people at each overlook, which was very nice. The views are spectacular. Amazing rock formations. The walls are very sheer and the drop-offs so sheer at the overlooks you get a funny feeling in your stomach just looking over. At the... More

Go early in the morning for a beautiful sunrise! Hike the rocks to the last overlook to see ancient ruins. Look DOWN to see fields planted with crops amidst the cottonwood trees.

Although I much prefer the drive and views along the South rim, if time allows the three stops here should not be missed.

The North Rim Drive is a beautiful drive. It is not as long as the south rim drive it has fewer overlooks but more ruins. A great many photo opportunities exist.

Beautiful Viewing Stations down into Canyon de Chelly from North Rim Drive outside of Chinle, AZ. I liked this entrance to the park.

This drive should be taken early in the day, to take advantage of morning sunlight for best picture taking. There are great views of cliff dwellings, and great views of the canyon. Please remember to take your binoculars, and take time to absorb the beauty of this special place.

We stopped at the overlooks along the north rim. Looking down into the canyon, we could envision the tranquil life the inhabitants of the canyon must have experienced ..... In peaceful times.

We did this drive in the early evening and the light was wonderful - virtually no one else around and so also very peaceful as the sun set.

Nice views of several caves and ruins. If you have extra 30-50 minutes after more popular South Rim Drive, it's not a bad idea to look here as well.

Seemed like the quiet side of the drive. Make sure you have a stocked cooler and a lot of time and stop at every over look. Read all the signs, take lot's of pictures, walk around, learn the history. Spend time in the silence. Imagine life there long ago. I teach this subject so studying the geology that formed this... More
