Rim view of the White House cliff dweller ruins

Part of the rim drive, this is an amazing overlook. The drop is fatal, so please keep pets and children leashed. ;)

White House Overlook is part of the South Rim Drive inside Canyon de Chelly National Monument. It is named for the ruins that can be seen towards the bottom of the canyon. There is a trail that visitors can access to see the ruins up close. This overlook has a very large parking lot and it has bathroom facilities. We... More

It is an easy walk from the parking lot to this overlook, which is also the start of the only trail into the Canyon without a Navajo guide. A pair of binoculars come in handy.to see this great structure.

White House Overlook is beautiful. Also the trail is the only hike you can do solo into the canyon... Red cliffs, cottonwoods below, rock formations!

This is one of the more well known overlooks at Canyon de Chelly. It's a fantastic view of the canyon below, and really helps in understanding how people lived down there. It remains a view of nature, even with a human settlement within it. If you have binoculars, bring them for an even better view - it's a long way... More

Took a short tour with Canyon de Chelly Tours, only 3 hours but worth it. Was able to view from the top of the rim drive first and then my tour driver too us down into the canyon for 3 hours. This area is magnificent. Kind of like a small Grand Canyon but very beautiful in every way.

This is a great stop along the South Rim Trail. You can do the 1 1/2 hour trek to the Canyon bottom from this point. One of the few places you can travel by foot in the park without a guide. If you stay on top and just enjoy the views it is still remarkable.

Look at that from the top - nice views, and then go down by easy trail to be close to White House ruins.

Like Spider Rock, this is an overview you should not miss – quit apart from the fact that this is also the start of the White House Ruin trail, the only access to the canyon open to visitors without a guide. Awesome views!

The White House Overlook is a beautiful stop along the south rim of the Canyon de Chelly. It's also the only place where you can get out of your car and hike on your own. The view from here is wonderful. See my review of the Canyon de Chelly.
