St. Marks is one of the funkiest neighborhoods in NYC. A short walk from Greenwich Village or take the subway to Astor Place. Great local pubs and restaurants and funky shops. Lots of locals - not at all touristy like Times Square. Get off the...More

So much history, art and culture to experience in this area. We found out a lot about the area and St Marks Place from the Lower East Side History Project walks that they do in the area - very educational. The history of the area...More

I only saw one chain (Chipoltle) amongst all of the local stores, eateries and attractions. There is still a hint of the rebel atmosphere that you think of with the East Village, but alas, you can see that this place too is becoming a high-rent...More

NY's Lower East Side preserves it's history, beautiful architecture and artworks on the buildings. Look very carefully at each building. Great places to shop for rock n roll attire too.

If I was to live in Manhattan, this is the area I would choose. East Village. St. Mark's is where all of the punk bands found themselves. Tons of clothing stores and shops in St. Mark's Place.

We were told to check out East Village by a friend who lives in Brooklyn. It was one of my favorite parts of Manhattan! We are in our early twenties and loved the really vibrant streets, full of quirky shops, market stalls, restaurants, hookah bars...More

As a native NYer there are few areas I have not either worked in or explored. I have been to St. Mark's Pl. at every stage of my life, yet even now as a grandma I absolutely loved it once again. It's just a few...More

Found myself quite attracted to the multitude of restaurants, bars & vintage shopping found all along the street. Maybe not as jaded as other travellers/commentators but I truly enjoyed walking around the street daily as I head back to my rented room just 5 mins...More
