On our journey from New Jersey to Mystic Connecticut we drove across the double-decked suspension bridge of just under a mile crossing the Hudson River. The bridge is the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge, regularly carrying an annual traffic volume of over 100 million vehicles. It is also the world's only suspension bridge with 14 vehicle lanes. It was the longest main bridge span in the world from 1931 until the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco opened in 1937.

The George Washington Bridge is a mess!!!! Avoid it at all costs!!! More than 95% of the time, there are 45 minutes delays in the weekday mornings. Seemingly, the organization that operates it has done little to nothing to improve the flow of traffic.

We crossed the GW to get to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. This was my kids first time riding over the bridge. We always take the Verrazano to the Outerbridge Crossing to Central Jersey.
I think they were more fascinated with the city views and rock walls approaching the bridge. Never a dull moment on the GW. Always traffic!

We crossed the bridge on our way to Connecticut. The wait time was nearly 30 minutes to cross over into New York and the traffic on other side was worse going to the Cross Bronx expressway. Look out for price increase. Ouch!

PROS
• Very impressive bridge
• Major transportation center
CONS
• Busy
• Confusing to get on and off
• Crowded lower deck
“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… going from LI to Pennsylvania via Manhattan and NJ- on an early Sunday morning.
Waze took us to the lower deck (as happened to is in January 2019- see my review from then). I was disappointed yet again.
TIP
Go on the upper deck- for the views

Fix the potholes in the road. The winter 🥶 weather and salt has caused large sections of road to be removed. These potholes are treacherous. We just had a front end alignment done. Please fix the roads soon.

While wandering around Washington Heights, we walked west on 181st over toward the Hudson River to catch a glimpse of this beauty. Traffic aside, it’s a beautiful bridge.

Please tell me why this is an attraction? It will get you across the water... Hopefully without too much traffic... With of course a hefty toll.

This is the worst bridge! It is very expensive, the traffic is horrible which makes commuting painful. It is in a very bad condition, dirty, overgrown weeds are everywhere. Someone is the owner and someone must be responsible for it.

The bottleneck leading up to the expensive crossing on this bridge is annoying, to say the least. Too congested.

Where can you park your car if you wish to walk across the bridge? Anywhere close by?
Is it free to walk across

I believe that all bridges (where you are allowed to walk across) are free. Including the GW bridge

Hi, I'm driving a rental car and don't have any E-Zpass to enter the toll thru George Washington bridge. Can anyone advise me if there is any cash-payment lane on this toll? Thank you.

Yes. Cash lanes are clearly marked and are the two right side lanes,
