A smooth and pleasant ferry ride around NY Harbor with great views of NYC, the Statute of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Governor's Island.

The ferry is free and a pleasant ride. You get close enough to take photos of the Statue of Liberty. Awesome pics of the NY skyline on the return trip.

The food shops are pricey and bathrooms were a mess.

Quicker and cheaper (free) option to see the Statue of Liberty. Ok you don’t stop at Ellis Island, but if a quick view of the Statue from a boat works for you then this is perfect. Trip was pleasant, lovely breeze to cool you down on a hot NYC day.

The ferry is, in fact, free. Wait in line to board and hurry to your spot on the deck. Go to the right side of the boat for the best view of the Statue of Liberty on the way to Staten Island. Everyone is required to exit the boat and then wait in line to get back on for the return trip. If you get your spot on the left side, you still see the SOL but it's not as close as on the first trip past. Great photo op of they city skyline as well.

A must do when in Lower Manhattan. We walked around Battery Park for an hour or so, then made our way to the ferry terminal.
Don’t be put off by the amount of people who want to use the ferry. There is plenty of room and everyone spreads out so it’s not crammed at all.
For a good view of the Statue of Liberty go to the right side of the ferry on the way over and the left on the way back. You don’t get that close to Mrs Columbus but you can say you’ve seen her.
The ferry is free (bonus) and takes around 20 minutes depending on weather conditions.
There are no places to purchase food so buy at the terminals. Plenty of choices.
Suggest you use the toilets at the terminals which are much cleaner than the ferry.
Note: if you’re just going over and coming straight back, you need to exit the ferry and line up again.

There are very few ferries that are this crowded, I think. I did not realise the lavatories could be this dirty and vile, anywhere in the world!

Hope a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry to get a decent view of the Statue of Liberty. Recommend if you are trying to pack a lot of sightseeing into a weekend trip.

Had heard it was good (and free) experience, but with the cost of everything in NYC so high know, I couldn't possibly believe this could be true...bit it was! We went on a sunny weekend in july..middle of the day, loads of oriole, but still easily got a great spot on the ferry..fabulous views if manhattan, statue of liberty and just so great to see it all from.the water...and free! I still couldn't believe it! We didn't stay in staten island, just got a drink and then next ferry back. Great experience

Nice to have a free ride out to see the Narrows bridge and some views of the Statue and the tower. View is good enough to take the couple hours to ride during off peak times
