Next to the metropolitan museum. The obelisks is old, about 3500 years old. It is 70 feet tall, 220 tons and the city’s oldest artifact

We definitely didn't expect to come across Cleopatra's Needle in the middle of Central Park 😂 A beautiful piece of history.

We weren’t on any particular mission—just strolling through Central Park. I must admit I had no idea there was an obelisk even in New York. Learning more about her made the find that more meaningful. The ancient obelisk is lumped collectively with three others in...More

Dates back to 1600bc and I believe this is the only Egyptian obelisk in the USA. Located in Central Park on 81st Street this seems almost out of place, but is a wonderful addition to the park.

Interesting attraction as such an ancient object was moved into Central Park. Sign helps to explain the history including how it was moved to it's current location.

Simply amazed that a genuine Egyptian obelisk dating to 1600 BC can actually exist in Central Park. One of the most interesting and very cool treasures in this city full of endless things to discover.

One of two obelisks relocated from Cairo. The twin monument is in London. I found this to be one of the most interesting things I visited in Central Park.

The only Egyptian Obelisk in the United States is located in New York’s Central Park behind (or in the front depending on how you look at it) the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is a fantastic example of an ancient Egyptian obelisk. An obelisk is...More

Lovely peaceful little spot, the monument, not the restaurant as some reviews seem to have confused. If you like your Egyptian history- it's worth a look.
