The garden is truly a must see in the spring. I visited Mid April, and the tulips in the garden where in full bloom. The flowering trees where definitely past peak, but still had a lot of flowers on them. The views in the garden where truly magnificent, everywhere you looked it was just so colorful. The steps in the garden are a bit uneven, so watch that for children, pets, and anyone with mobility issues. I definitely recommend a trip to the garden in the spring!

We had our wedding ceremony in Shakespeare's Garden and it was absolutely breathtaking. Everyone there respected our private moment and it was an exceptional day. I absolutely love NY and can't wait to go back. What an amazing place with terrific people!

We spent quite a while exploring Central Park on our last visit to the city, and the highlight for me was this exquisite garden. Winding pathways and around every turn were lush, beautiful gardens. You definitely forget you are in the heart of New York City here!

The Shakespeare Garden in Central Park, covers around 4 acres and contains plants that were specifically mentioned in the plays of William Shakespeare. It was so named in 1916 but fell into disrepair during the mid 20th century due to lack of funding. It's plight was largely highlighted by Helene Hanff's, author of the classic book "84 Charing Cross Road" in 1970. In her subsequent tour of Britain she mentioned that local volunteers could not obtain the correct plants for the garden and soon public donations of appropriate seeds were crossing the Atlantic from Shakespeare's homeland. Forty years on, the garden is well established and maintained.
Located near to the Belvedere Castle folly this is a pleasant place to meander for a while and enjoy the blooms of a quintessentially British garden. Hidden amongst the plantings are brass plaques with quotes form the Bards' plays which refer to the plants.
A lovely place to reflect...

Just came here today in August and the garden was beautiful and lush. It was rainy so there were very few people here. The garden is relatively small, but definitely worth a visit!

The reviews all say the same thing because its true. We wanted to see Belvadere Castle which is closed and under construction. Because it was nearby, we walked down through the stone stairs that meander through the garden. What a lovely place! I read about it but didn't put it on my list of things to do. But you can, especially if you're planning to be near the castle anyway. It's not big and nice to wander. I forgot for a minute that I was in the city. We saw three different groups of people with professional photographers here, so it's a thing. It's not tortured and coiffed. Rather, it feels natural like everything just grew there on its own. We were so lucky to be there early June, so many beautiful and unusual flowers were in bloom at this time. Kudos to the garden-tenders. I loved it here.

To no fault of the Park or Shakespeare himself, this was just bad timing on our part.
A neat marble couch and a statue, but the "garden" itself had not come alive yet after the winter.

I wasn't sure a visit to the garden would be worthwhile in the middle of winter but boy was I wrong! Granted, the signs are covered in snow but it's endless beauty! The statues are still visible and so is the theater.

We woke up at 5am to get those tickets.
We did the longest line but finally we were able to get some.
Its a simple basic installation but the whole waiting on the park was amazing to really get close to nature. To see as many actors at the same time, up close and for free. Its worth waiting!
We did it on 2010 to see al pacino also...

it's located inside the central park, it's not a big garden, not much to see, buy just walk through it to take a look if you are in the central park

I was searching online about shakespeare Garden and found a website govisitnyc. Here, I have found top things to do in New York city and also about the best restaurants. Can anyone suggest me about the Shakespeare Garden… Can I visit there with my family?

Shakespear gardens are located off 79th street on the natural history side of Central Park and it is signposted, so it's easy to find. It's a joy to walk into this plantation of seasonal plants and to enjoy the year round colours and it's free to enter for everyone. Top info: only plants and flowers mentioned in Shakespeare's plays are growing here. Enjoy.
