Down a set of stairs to a small club (as are most Manhattan jazz clubs). We called and were told no tickets needed just call in and they will reserve seats for you! (great policy) Although the place is small, sounds were great, the charge...More

We went to the village vanguard on a Saturday. The place itself is quite old and smells a bit like an attic... but it gives its charm! Make sure you bring and umbrella on a rainy day as you will be asked to queue outside...More

It is old and dark and a bit musty, but the sound and walking around a place where all the greats have played is just special. I go every time I visit NYC and am never disappointed. Things to know - the tables are tight,...More

tom hurrell and band were playing the night we went and were excellent; delightful tiny venue with the owner, lorraine gordon, herself a jazz legend, in attendance, one drink policy completely reasonable. overall a very uplifting experience, do go.

It's a really small venue so I felt especially privileged to see The Christian McBride Quartet there. It's a legendary venue, where you can hear legends. Not for the claustrophobic.

We visited New York for my birthday to experience world class jazz. It is America's only unique art form after all although you would sometimes wonder. Any jazz fan would have heard of The Village Vanguard and I have several live albums recorded there so...More

As others have said, this is they way jazz is meant to be experienced. The setting is intimate and the servers have a good system of quickly getting both the drinks and the bill in a timely manner. A group of us saw the Christian...More

If you like jazz, you can't miss a visit to the Village Vanguard while you're in New York City. The later shows (doors around 10 for a 10:30pm start) seem to sell out less. Best to call ahead and leave your names. Once inside, you...More

Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the
West Village is one of the city’s most coveted

this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You
won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan.
Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to

Looking to go to the 10:30p show on a Thursday... we fly in that morning. Is it recommended to get tickets ahead of time or would there be some available that night?

Definitely book in advance, easy to do online. Also arrive early to get a good seat- space is limited.

I'd love to expose my kids to some good jazz. Would this be an appropriate place? My kids are well behaved, but would they be welcome? Or is it mainly a bar scene?...if not, any other nyc jazz suggestions? Thanks.

With kids that age I would recommend to check some of the programs offered at Jazz at Lincoln Center
