We went here on a Saturday night, and we had a great time. The place is very intimate, the acoustics were good, and the band were absolute pros. If you like jazz, then this is for you! Pro tips: get there at least 30 mins before show time. When we went and the first show had sold out, so we... More

What a find! I LOVE SMALLS. It's small and perfect for live Jazz. This is a great date place, or solo date for jazzing out.

It's in the basement and very bohemian. Staff is friendly outside--we took our 14 year old daughter who is a drummer. The music was a mix of contemporary and classic jazz played by the owner, Spike, and a his friends. They serve only drinks. You can come and go when you want but there are three shows each night. During... More

Is it just me, or does live jazz sound better in a basement? Went to Smalls based on good reviews and was rewarded handsomely. $10 cover charge per person for a Friday night show. Arrived between sets and was able to grab seats with my friend right up front, though that may not mean much with how small the space... More

A nice place to go by yourself, with a glass of good wine. Excellent musicians and good acoustics in the small pretty jazz club.

An institution in NYC but well worth a visit. We did the evening set and despite that fact i'm not a huge jazz fan, this was brilliant. Its small but perfect size for a very intimate gig. Great service and the added bonus was my wife left her iPhone in there, it was returned to us the next day, good... More

I'd heard of Smalls via NPR jazz shows, upon initially finding it (the first time I went) it was not at all what I thought it would be like (Ronnie Scott's): basement location, mismatched chairs, cat wandering the stage. The magic begins though when the music starts, pure sonic alchemy. The level of musicianship we have heard here since our... More

My husband loves jazz and I have been to this place a couple of months before with friends. The atmosphere is very chill and the performers amazing. The place is tiny but cozy and you can get a drink while listening to great music

Sit up front to feel the music unfiltered. Standard wine and drinks at the bar. Nothing special. The music is played by talented, fun, and passionate jazz artists.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
