This is just a body of water and grasses. The Sandhill cranes came in by the hundreds which was fun to watch. They basically landed in the grasses so didn't get an up close look but was still interesting. Would like to have photographed them...More

Overnight parking allowed at trailhead right off the highway. Many birds. I was woken up in the morning by a road runner on top of my camper.

Plan ahead to be there when the Sand Hill Crane migration arrives, with the added bonus of Snow Geese. The sights and sounds of the migration are absolutely marvelous! A memorable event.

but you must check with local tourism. we hit it at 11 am, and saw 1000's. but miss it by half hour - you see sleeping birds in field far away. i hit it perfect today and have a memory for life that was breath-taking!...More

We sat here during sunset and what a show! Thousands of Sandhill Cranes flew in and landed! It was beautiful! We got here at 4 pm. I can't wait to come back to see the Cranes next year!
