As the largest natural and cultural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast, the South Florida Museum offers engaging exhibits as well as educational programs that interpret the scientific and cultural knowledge of Florida, the world and our universe. In addition to permanent exhibits, the Museum features a constantly changing lineup of temporary exhibitions -- offering something new to discover with each visit. The Museum includes the all-digital Bishop Planetarium Theater and the Parker Manatee Aquarium. Celebrating its 50th anniversary year, the Bishop Planetarium is the Gulf Coast's premier astronomy education facility, outfitted with a state-of-the-art Planetarium and projection system with stunning multimedia capabilities. The Parker Manatee Aquarium is home to Snooty™, Manatee County's official mascot and the oldest known manatee in the world, as certified by Guinness World Records. Snooty shares his Aquarium pool with other manatees that have been injured or orphaned and are being rehabilitated for return to the wild as part of the Manatee Rehabilitation and Release Partnership.

The planetarium was so special. There is a fossil of a mammoth, a model T car, exhibit on indian dolls, sea shell exhibits, and the manatee aged 68 years old...has to be hand fed because he prefers it that way! Spoiled rotten!

We took our two grandsons age 15 and 14. We all had a wonderful time. Snooty the long time resident Manatee is always a big draw. The Planetarium is an amazing full dome theater. It was a real education in astronomy complete with a surround sound system. The galaries in the museum are masterfully done. Just allow enough time to... More

I live here full time, and in addition to bringing out-of-town guests here, I regularly attend special events like Think and Drink and Stelliferous. They are informative, entertaining and a great way to keep up with what's going in today's world. The museum membership packages are a great deal!

Wonderful museum with Snooty as the side-show!! We sat through three planetarium shows -- the lecturer makes it fun and entertaining!! The Tom Hanks narrated show is worth your time!! Excellent collection of artifacts!! Upstairs is like going through Bradenton's historical attic!! We also enjoyed the nature art show by one of the local artists!!

The museum can entertain people of all ages. The planetarium was entertaining and informative. Snooty of course was the star to us. It is amazing to know that he is almost 70 years old. The artifacts and historical information were well presented. We will be back again

This museum has a little bit of everything. It has the world's oldest manatee, Snooty, a planetarium, and it is also a natural history museum. There is a little something for everyone. The planetarium shows are very informative, and the planetarium worker truly wants to help the audience learn and understand the topics. The natural history section includes fossils, skeletons,...
