Getting there right now is a little dicey given that you will encounter patches of snow and puddles. There's room to maneuver around them, however. Most of the way consist of gravel road and there are parts that have bad wash boarding. Still, I think...More

This was a biggest surprise and wonder of nature during our trip through California. We were not expecting to find such geothermal place by Mammoth Lakes. It was easy to find through Google Maps. We were visiting in late October when it rained and at...More

I didn't know about the geo thermal pools until a desk employee at the hotel suggested it. They were beautiful, there was no charge and dogs on a leash were allowed.

Stumbled onto this while driving up 395 and was blown away. It's hard to describe, but you descend into a small canyon in which a creek flows and once there you discover numerous bubbling hot water vents, some very intense, others just barely bubbling, as...More

Hot Creek is one of the premier catch-and-release wild trout streams in the West. Single, barbless hooks only. If you stay at Hot Creek Resort, dry fly fishing only but trout are plentiful. A guide from nearby Mammoth Lakes or at the resort would be...More

Wasn't sure how to rate Hot Creek. If you are a tourist, and you want to see the hot pools of thermal activity, you may ask yourself "is this it?" If you are a fly fisherman, and you want to try your hand at fishing...More

You cannot go into the water. The water temperature can get very hot! Upon doing some research, I read that the water temperature can reach up to 200 degrees. There is no fee to see the hot springs.

From Hwy 395, take the Hot Creek Hatchery Road that is just west of the Mammoth Airport. After about 1 mile, turn right at the brown sign directing you to the Hot Creek Fish Hatchery and Geological Site. You will drive about... More
